Annual Report 2012

Our Annual Board meeting was held January 15, 2013 completing our fiscal year reporting for 2012. As The Melonhead Foundation continues to be more successful each year I am grateful and aware that we accomplish this as a collective group focused on our positive intentions. The Foundation posted yet another banner year financially for Patient Assistance Programs. In addition, we completed a second successful year at the Wannahealyah Wellness Center providing more services for our patients through Holistic Protocols available at no charge to our Melonhead families. We could not have accomplished this without each of you. We are grateful.

The best news of the year is that we awarded over $37,305 in Patient Services Programs. $21,224 in assistance and $16,081 in Holistic Services to our families at the Wannahealyah Wellness Center (WWC). The WWC awards doubled from 2011. In comparison we awarded $33,000 in Patient Programs in the previous year of 2011.

About Melonhead

The Melonhead Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization that supports the needs of children with cancer and their families.

The Foundation provides financial aid for families of children 21 years of age or younger, with any diagnosis of cancer. Funds pay for housing, utilities, auto expenses, medical bills, personal needs and Holistic Wellness. Our home base is Arizona and families can contact us through their local social workers at Pediatric Cancer Hospitals.

As of January 1, 2019, Melonhead has awarded $520,000 to 605 families. Our first award was given in 1999. In those 20 years,  our volunteer board members and event volunteers have given their support generously. We are a volunteer run organization.

In 2019 The Melonhead Foundation will continue with our mission. We are harmonizing with the social media avenue of giving through Amazon Smiles, Arizona Tax Credit, Facebook Fundraisers, Grants and benefactors. Our philanthropic vibration continues.

Meet Melanie

MelanieAs a young girl, Melanie Leone was a competitive swimmer with a dream of winning a gold medal in the 1992 Olympic Games. Even before she was diagnosed with leukemia and lost all of her hair during chemotherapy, her swimming friends affectionately called her “Melonhead.”

Of course, the nickname was even more appropriate as she continued to train all through her chemotherapy treatment. Melanie was so positive in her attitude that her hair loss became an asset to swimming. “No drag–it feels cool as I zoom through the water.” Continue reading Meet Melanie
